As I mentioned a while back I quit my job at the beginning of January to take a break and check out the market. I wasn’t really sure how it was all going to work out, considering the last time I was unemployed (back in 2003) I was out of work for 6 months. As it turns out the market is amazingly hot. I had four or five interviews with companies, a bunch of interviews with recruiters, several other phone interviews and I landed a short term contract for the month of February. And tomorrow I start a new full time position with Vault Technologies as a Senior Software Developer. Vault is in the parking management space and I’ll be working on their desktop application used to remotely manage their kiosks. I’m back in Java land and I’m really looking forward to it. As an added bonus, Vault is not located in downtown Calgary so the commute will be much nicer.
It certainly has been a fun ride. I’ve learned a lot over the last couple months about accountants, how recruiters work, sole proprietorships, incorporation and I obviously managed to get a ton more interview experience. For the first week or so of February I was working about 12 hours a day between the contract I was on and pursuing new opportunities (so much for my break!).
Anyway, I’ve got one day to relax and then March and the new job begins. Should be fun.
